Matt, affectionately known as "Big Guy" by staff and Pirate Club members alike, joined the Pirate Club staff in January, 1994, as an Assistant Director. Prior to that date, Matt was Assistant Director of Sports Marketing for the ECU Athletics Department.

A native of Columbia, South Carolina, Matt holds an undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina. During his undergraduate years at South Carolina, Matt lettered in swimming in 1982-86 and was team captain his senior year. Following his undergraduate work, Matt went on to Ohio University, where he received a graduate degree in Sports Administration in 1989.

Matt  was most recently the Associate Director handling various chapters within the Pirate Club Representative Program, as well as was the direct liaison with the ECU Pirate Club’s Letterwinners Chapter.  Matt’s primary responsibilities will be to identify, cultivate and solicit prospects for high-end annual fund gifts, capital, endowment and planned gifts to fulfill the long-term success of East Carolina University and East Carolina Athletics. Matt will also continue to be the primary contact with our Letterwinners group. 

Matt and his wife, Laurie, are the proud owners of Pee Dee, a large golden retriever/yellow lab.
